Before proceeding with this post, I suggest pushing play on the first song that had been released from The Hunger Games Official Soundtrack: "Safe & Sound" by Taylor Swift ft The Civil Wars :) And it so happens that today is the release date of the soundtrack in stores & on iTunes! Now just enjoy the beautiful haunting music while checking out this guest post!
Hi there! My name is Ryan, lady author of the blog Dream A Little Dream Of Polish and avid polish tweeter @DreaminofPolish :D Maria & I are from opposite sides of the country, but have been becoming best nail polish gal pals recently, because of the love of polish we share, AND our mutual obsession with THE HUNGER GAMES!!!! So we decided this weekend we would do guest blog posts with a Hunger Games theme! We both read the books and are seeing the movie this Thursday night for the midnight premiere: March 23rd, 2012 is almost here!!!! This Hunger Games-inspired mani is based on Katniss Everdeen, "The Girl On Fire". In the book, Katniss gets her nails done by her prep team. She gets made over for her televised interviews with Caesar Flickerman and the book talks about how they paint fiery flames on her nails. Her first outfit is a chic elaborate black dress (to represent coal & District 12's mining). Cinna designed the dress to catch on fire with faux flames. Katniss is known as 'the girl on fire' throughout the series, the girl who sparks the rebel uprising, lights a fire in the districts & changes the lives of all Panem citizens.
So based on this pre-games outfit, her nickname, and the fact that Katniss has flames painted on her nails....I am doing a mani to look like black coal catching fire. I used OPI "Black Onyx" as a full basecoat, 2 coats. I let that dry then I layered it with Essie "Matte About You" mattifying topcoat. I wanted that matte effect to resemble the ashiness of coal. Next I used a fine tip art brush and China Glaze "Electrify" from the Hunger Games Capitol Colours Collection to create a fiery flame nail tip gradient. Electrify is a brilliant gold & red glitter, that mixed together looks like fire. Who else owns some of the ChG Capitol Colours??? Well, on with the picture show of my "Girl On Fire" nail design!
OPI "Black Onyx" by itself
1 coat of Essie "Matte About You"....love the matte effect
now for some flames bursting from the tips with China Glaze "Electrify"!!!!!
it really is a fabulous brilliant intensely packed gold & red glitter....the gold pieces are very small & fine while the red pieces are just slightly larger hexagon shaped glitters
fluorescent lighting
warm overhead lighting
I did try to put some Seche Vite on the glitter since its so course & chunky & tends to catch on fabrics
Hell yesssss I have a movie set replica of the Mockingjay pin!!!!! Thank you Hot Topic!
Who's going to buy the movie soundtrack? Below is the most recent tv spot trailer, "The Countdown"
.....and may the odds be ever in your favor.
